Welcome, University of New Hampshire Interns
Leone, McDonnell & Roberts is pleased to welcome University of New Hampshire (UNH) Peter T. Paul College of Business and Economics students Molly Burns, Rob Franger and Ryan Olver as interns at the firm.
Molly Burns is from Bedford, NH and is a senior Accounting major at UNH. She enjoys horseback riding and is a member of the Kappa Delta sorority at UNH. She hopes to have her CPA license within the next three years.
Hailing from Shrewsbury, MA, Rob Franger is a senior at UNH, and plans to obtain his Masters in Accounting next year. Rob is a member of the UNH track and field team and also plays recreational basketball at school. This is his second internship with Leone, McDonnell & Roberts.
Ryan Olver, from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, is a senior at UNH, studying accounting and finance. He plays intramural basketball, is a member in the Sigma Chi fraternity, and is part of Greek InterVarsity (a Christian fellowship group on campus). Ryan plans on graduating with a Masters in Accounting in the spring of 2019 and from there hopes to earn his CPA license.
In speaking about his internship experience thus far, Ryan noted, “I have learned many aspects of tax and audits during my internship, including the preparation of individual returns as well as the creation of various work papers for audits.” He hopes to continue learning how to prepare the more challenging individual and business returns.
“I have learned so much over the past year,” says Molly. “I began my first tax internship in January 2017 with no prior tax experience. By the end of tax season I was comfortable navigating the software, having discussions about different tax forms, and understanding that every return is unique. Now that I am in my second tax season, I’m hoping to gain a better understanding of more complex tax returns.”
At Leone, McDonnell & Roberts, interns are thoroughly trained in tax and audit engagement, and are provided with opportunities that provide them with valuable experience in the accounting profession. They are also fully immersed in the culture at the firm, taking part in their many social activities as well.
The firm has been partnering with the University of New Hampshire and other area secondary schools such as Plymouth State University, Saint Anselm College and Southern New Hampshire University for many years, participating in career fairs, resume reviews, internship panel discussions and small firm exploration nights. These events afford students the opportunity to learn more about the profession and the firm, and some may even explore internship and career opportunities with Leone, McDonnell & Roberts in the future.
“The partnership with the University of New Hampshire has been outstanding,” notes Evan Stowell, partner at Leone, McDonnell & Roberts. “We recently held a CPA for a Day event where accounting students spent the day with us, gaining valuable insight from our employees into the accounting industry and our firm.”
