Making a Difference One Step at a Time
It is always our pleasure to recognize and support our employees in their philanthropic and volunteer efforts in our community. This past weekend, LMR team members Cindy Breen and Sarah Scheffer participated in the Rochester Relay for Life, an 18-hour walk where people gather to honor cancer survivors, remember loved ones who have lost their battles and raise money for the American Cancer Society.
“I relay in honor and memory of my mother who fought her cancer battle with such dignity and grace, and for many other relatives, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, strangers, and caregivers who have been affected by this disease,” said Cindy. “When I see an 11 month old, a 9 year old and an 87 year old walk the survivors lap, I am inspired to keep fighting!”
Alongside their team, Cindy and Sarah walked around the track through the night as a reminder that cancer doesn’t stop because people are too tired or their bodies are sore and achy.
“Family, friends, colleagues…we’ve all been touched by cancer in some way. Walking for hours on end in the pouring rain with your feet aching to the bones…well, that is nothing compared to what people afflicted with cancer endure,” said team captain Sarah Scheffer. “The Relay offers hope to so many, and if I can make even a small difference, I’m all in.”
Cindy and Sarah’s Relay team organized fitness events, a yard sale, a paint night and other activities throughout the months leading up to the walk, ultimately raising over $7,100 for the American Cancer Society. The 2018 Rochester Relay for Life raised over $90,000 for the American Cancer Society to help fund groundbreaking research and patient care programs.
Thank you, Cindy and Sarah for taking steps toward a cure.
